Today I thought I should blog on some thing more basic, but I hope some of you find it useful!
There are 5 main Skin Type categories, however under these categories are the more individual types of skin which will have effects on you. Knowing your own skin type can be important so you are aware of which products to use and what not to use! It also becomes a lot easier to make decisions for your particular skin needs. I hope you find this blog helpful.
Remember noticing different factors from each skin type does not specify that particular one. (Don't worry!) We each have different complexions, colours, effects on our skin, etc. Our skin types are almost unique and it is with in ourselves to find out what works best for us!
Normal Skin
Normal skin types are least likely to have problems! You have none or rarely get imperfections (spots/blemishes), pores are hardly visible and your complexion is radiant. You have a naturally healthy complexion with minimum traces of oil. Your skin is not sensitive and you should allow your self to experiment and try out different products with no effect!
Combination Skin
Combination skin is very common! It can be from normal, oily to dry or a mixture of the two in different places. Using different skin care products in certain areas may benefit the slightly different skin types. Your skin may be producing blackheads, clogged pores and shininess. Where as you might want to reduce the oils in your skin it is important you don't over use products that are specifically designed for oily skin types, such as "mattifying" formulas, however using a product like this will banish oiliness you may start to notice dry patches. This is because of the combination in your skin tissue. It is important you don't reach for products like this unless you really need it because it can have harsher effects on the skin and leave it worse of after the use.
Using a soft oil free moisturiser will give your skin moisture and make it smooth, being a soft moisturiser will hopefully not clog up pores but keep your skin feeling fresh. If you suffer with blackheads use a light facial scrub that is specifically designed for unclogging pores. You can use a primer under make up to minimise the appearance of pores, the POREfessional by Benefit and Baby Skin by Maybelline are both designed to reduce the appearance of clogged pores. Just make sure you are keeping your face clean by washing daily and don't worry spots are natural!
Dry skin
If you have dry skin you will notice dryer areas (particularly around spots), smaller pores, a rough complexion and you may notice red patches in certain areas. Red patches are most commonly found around cheeks, nose and ear lobes. Your skin may be cracking, peeling or even going scaly around any areas. This is totally normal and can be treated!
Exfoliating is a great way to get rid of dry skin! Use only a small amount of exfoliating scrub and don't be too harsh on your skin, it could become irritant and you could even be left with a rash. Make sure the exfoliating scrub is for your face and NOT a body scrub. Body scrubs are fragranced and work deeper into the skin, you are trying to avoid anything too harsh.
Sun damage can cause or worsen your dry skin more. Make sure to use a high in factor sun screen and don't spend too much time in the sun! Wearing make up in the sun is super easy as most
foundations have an SPF of around 15-20. Remember foundations do not provide enough protection from the sun completely, you will still need to use a sun cream and foundations with SPF take about 20 minutes to work in the sun.
High SPF foundations:
Dior Forever Fluid Foundation SPF 25
Cheaper option -
Collection Lasting Perfection Ultimate Wear Foundation SPF 20
You can also buy lip blams with SPF to prevent dry, chapped lips. You may want to use a toner to even out your complexion, but go easy on toning and cleansing, don't over do it. Cleanse with fresh soap less water.
